When we lost our neighbor and dear friend Kathy Kis to cancer, a group of women came together to share stories of friendship. Kathy's contributions to our neighborhood were well known. Her mantra was "Spring Lake--where neighbors become friends." Because she was an avid promoter of reading and an extraordinary school library media specialist, Sue Gorman suggested that we create a Little Free Library in her honor--a place where neighbors and visitors could share books. From there, a committee was formed (Sue Gorman, Mary Androff, Joni Wood, Michelle Delsman, and Bev King). The library design by Joni Wood was based on Kathy's colorful front-porch butterfly bench. Kathy's friend Travis Cadd agreed to build it, and the rest is history. The library was placed on the Gormans' property, where Sue is the library steward and Chris offered to be the caretaker. Residents have been generous book donors and motivated borrowers. EVERYONE is welcome to use our LFL. We simply ask that no signs or notices be posted there.
Soon a STORYBOOK TRAIL will be added, thanks to the Gormans, who have been generous in sharing their property. It will kick off in June, with the book OVER IN THE FOREST. Check the Spring Lake Facebook page for announcements.
