Restocking efforts
Last year perch were added to the lake to create more diversity. Discussions about the long-term probability of the perch surviving due to the northerns was considered.
We have proof that the perch was recently caught (and returned) that was ready to spawn. This means that we may be on our way to include perch in the pond but for now they are catch and release.
Remember to fill out the survey of the fish you catch (and release)!
Spring will be here in a few weeks (or is already depending on that groundhog) and we will soon see the migratory birds return and life coming back all around us. Unfortunately, this will bring Avian Flu closer to our everyday lives.
Instead of trying to summarize DNR information about it I put a link below which will take you to the Wisconsin DNR resource and information about it and what to do. I encourage you take a few minutes to read and understand it. Especially the following sections:
Transmission: How the avian influenza virus spreads
Clinical Signs: How to identify when a bird may possibly be infected.
Disease Management: When and how to contact the DNR.
